Class 7 English chapter 20

Exercise C
Ans1Moina wanted to catch a snake because her family ate snakes.
Ans2. The author dragged Moina back because she was trying to catch a large snake. Cobra is poisonous and could have harmed Moina.
Ans3. Sabars eat snakes.
Ans4. Moina didn't want to rest because she had many things to do like bring the Babu's goats home, collect firewood, fetch water and lay the trap for birds.
Ans5. Moina didn't want to thank the Babu for the rice because she fid many jobs for the Babu. So, if he had sent the rice, there was no reason to thank him
Ans6. Moina's mother was lame, her father had gone to Jamshedpur in search of work and her brother collected firewood in the forest. So, Moina had to work to support her family.
Ans7. When she was a child, Moina would tell the village children whatever she had learnt from the author. When she was eighteen, she started teaching at the Samiti School.
Hots Ans1Moina wanted to come and stay with the author because firstly, she liked the author because the author cared for her. Shewas eager to learn and could learn a lot from the author.
Ans2. Yes, the author marvelled at Moina's capacity to ask questions. She loved answering her questions and was happy that a tribal girl was  learning  so many new things so well.
Ans3. The argument was about the school hours. The schoool worked from 9 to 11am. Moina could come to schoool only after 11 as she had to graze the Babu's goats in the morning.She wanted to learn and if there was nobody to teach , how could she learn? So she wanted the school hours to be changed.

Exercise B
1. The father was reading a newspaper and the mother was talking on the phone.
2. The government stopped playing the National Anthem at the end of a film show in cinema halls because people would leave the hall midway laughing and talking.
3. i. You can show respect to your National Anthem or flag.
ii. You can take pride and preserve your language and culture.
iii. You can serve your fellow beings.
4.Akash decided to come back to India and serve his country. The family was not happy with the decision. They wanted him to earn money, settle in America and call them there.
5. Akash immediately packed his bags and left for the village where the epidemic had broken out. He served the people there and saved many lives. He did so because he was a dedicated doctor and couldn't see people dying around him and not do anything.
6. Akash himself fell seriously ill and after fighting with the illness for a month, he passed away.
7. The villagers collected money and built a small hospital in the village. They named the hospital after Akash to pay homage to him.
Hots Ans. Nanaji was warmly welcomef by the villagers because he was the father of Dr. Akash Rai, who had saved many lives during the epidemic. The villagers were grateful for Akash's selfless service.

Exercise C.
Ans1. The school room into which Mr.Mell took David was a forlorn, desolate, long room with three long rows of desks and six of benches. There were silkworms' webs on the desks and scraps of paper littered the dirty floor. There was a small bird in a cage and two white mice ran around the room filled with a strange unwholesome smell of fungus. Ink was splattered all around.

Ans2. When David saw the placard, he got upon a desk apprehensive of a great dog because the worfs on the placard said," Take care of him. He bites."

Ans3. David suffered greatly because he always fancied that somebody was reading the placard on his back.

Ans4. The man with the wooden leg made sure that David's placard was always clearly visible for everyone to read. He didn't let David lean against a tree or a wall but threatened to report him if ever his placard was not clearly displayed.

Ans5. David dreamt of being with his mother or of going to a party at Mr. Peggotty's, or of travelling outside the stagecoach or of dining with his friend, the waiter. In all these circumstances people screamed and stared to see David wearing only his night shirt and the placard.

Ans1. Yes, the school atmosphere was depressing. Theschool building was quiet and desolate. The desolate, neglected schoool room with two helpless mice and a caged bird made the atmosphere gloomy. The stale-smelling, damp roim made the place unbearable.

Ans2. David was forced to wear the placard on his back and he suffered greatly on this account. He always imagined that someone was reading the placard on his back. The constant fear and humiliation didn't let him sleep peacefully and even in his dreams he imagined people  si be staring at him.

Ans3. We feel sorry for David at the harsh and humiliating punishment which he did not deserve.

Class 7 English My Early Days in England

C. 1. Gandhiji's friend treated him as his own brother. He initiated Gandhiji  into English ways and manners and gave him necessary practice in speaking in English.
2. Gandhiji's main problem was his not getting proper food. He was a pure vegetarian and vegetarian food was not easy to come by.
3. Gandhiji spent a lot of time reading newspapers. In fact, he developed liking for reading newspaper. Secondly,  he would go out searching for a vegetarian restaurant.
4. Gandhiji changed himself in and out to be like an English gentleman. He got new clothes, a chimney-pot hat , an expensive evening suit and ties for himself. His brother sent him  a double watch-chain in gold and he started visiting the barber regularly to get a shave and hair cut. Not contented with all this, he took lessons in dancing,French, elocution and playing violin.

5. The name 'Mr Bell' reminded Gandhiji that he was wasting time over things which would not be of much help once he went back to India. He realized that he was a student and he had come to England to pursue his studies for the Bar Examination. As a result, Gandhiji gave up his efforts to become an English gentleman and became a serious student.
HOTS.
1. Yes, the intruder has brains. He has made a plan to replace himself with Gerrard. He plans to eliminate him and live in his house as Gerrard. He has studied him and his activities carefully and chalked out his plan to escape the police. He is almost able to carry out his plans.

Father's Help. Chapter 18. Class 6

A.
1.He was not in mood to go or he was feeling lazy.
2. A letter, give it to the headmaster
3. The dismissal of his teacher, how the teacher caned the students violently
4.at the end of the day.
5. That the headmaster had taken the afternoon off and would be on leave for a week.
B.
1. Mother was lenient and generously suggested that he should stay at home if he had a headache.  Father was a strict man and could not be fooled so easily.he did not believe Swami's excuses and insisted that he must go to school.
2. Because as pwr Swami's account , the teacher used to beat the students violently. So, father wrote a letter to the headmaster suggesting some stern action against Samuel.
3. Because like himself, Swami's father also held the opinion that students should not miss school

4.Swami had given an exaggerated account of the teacher to his father. So the  father had written a letter to the headmaster suggesting some strong action against the teacher. Swami now felt sorey for his action and felt responsible for the disgrace and humiliation that the teacher would suffer.
5. Swami disturbed Samuel in the class by asking stupid questions, in a very loud voice, related to the topic he was teaching. He also interrupted qhile the other children were responding to Samuel's questions. He thus provoked Samuel to beat him.
6. In the end, Father tore up the letter and threw it the wastepaper bin. He suspected that Swami qas lying to him about the headmaster being on leave and seemed to be angry with him.

HOTS
Ans1. Swami felt bad because in his heart, he knew that the teacher was not so bad. He felt responsible for the misery Samuel would have to suffer. He had lied to his father only to escape schoool.

Ans3. Swami wanted Samuel to beat him so that he could justify the teacher's dismissal in his conscience and would not feel guilty.

CLASS6 THE WASP AND THE BEE Ans1. The wasp thinks that although he is better looking than the bee, the bee is loved more. Ans2. The wasp is very handsome. His back has an elegant shape and is as bright and yellow as gold. He also has a very delicate wing. Ans3. The wasp approaches the bee for advice. Ans4. People don't like the wasp because of his ill-temper. Ans5. The bee is homely and plain. He has a very small sting. Ans6. The bee is liked by everybody because he is hard working and good natured. CLASS 6 A FISHY STORY

At first, the narrator thought it was a cod. 2a. The landlord is the speaker. He is speaking to George and the narrator. b. These were men who used to come to the inn and claimed to have caught the trout. c. It refers to the trout. d. No, the trout was not a real stuffed fish, butwas made of plaster of Paris. EXERCISED. Ans1. According to the local carrier, he had remarkably caught the trout with a fly. Ans2. THe landlord said that he had caught the trout himself when he was a boy without any art or skill but by sheer luck. He was paying truant from school and went fishing. He caught the trout with a bit of string attached to the end of a tree. Ans3. The strange thing about the shattering of the trout was that a stuffed fish could not have broken into pieces. HOTS Ans1. The villagers were trying to brag about their fishing skills and fool the visitors into believing their stories. There was no malice involved as they were only trying to have fun at the expense of the ignorant visitors.
