Exercise B.
1....the schoool building was bare and quiet.
2...holidays as a punishment for his misdoing.

Exercise C.
Ans1. The school room into which Mr.Mell took David was a forlorn, desolate, long room with three long rows of desks and six of benches. There were silkworms' webs on the desks and scraps of paper littered the dirty floor. There was a small bird in a cage and two white mice ran around the room filled with a strange unwholesome smell of fungus. Ink was splattered all around.

Ans2. When David saw the placard, he got upon a desk apprehensive of a great dog because the worfs on the placard said," Take care of him. He bites."

Ans3. David suffered greatly because he always fancied that somebody was reading the placard on his back.

Ans4. The man with the wooden leg made sure that David's placard was always clearly visible for everyone to read. He didn't let David lean against a tree or a wall but threatened to report him if ever his placard was not clearly displayed.

Ans5. David dreamt of being with his mother or of going to a party at Mr. Peggotty's, or of travelling outside the stagecoach or of dining with his friend, the waiter. In all these circumstances people screamed and stared to see David wearing only his night shirt and the placard.

Ans6. Some good moments of David's life were being with his mother or going to a party at Mr. Peggotty's or travelling outside the stagecoach.

Ans1. Yes, the school atmosphere was depressing. Theschool building was quiet and desolate. The desolate, neglected schoool room with two helpless mice and a caged bird made the atmosphere gloomy. The stale-smelling, damp roim made the place unbearable.

Ans2. David was forced to wear the placard on his back and he suffered greatly on this account. He always imagined that someone was reading the placard on his back. The constant fear and humiliation didn't let him sleep peacefully and even in his dreams he imagined people  si be staring at him.

Ans3. We feel sorry for David at the harsh and humiliating punishment which he did not deserve.
